Retriever Report- Back to School Edition
August 28th, 2017
Message from Dr. TRESler
I am thrilled to be the new principal at TRES! It has been a great beginning, and I am looking forward to the first day of school on Sept. 5th! A big thank you to those families who came out to meet me at the picnic on the playground event!
My transition to TRES has been great due to the support of the wonderful TRES staff. I have to share with all of you how much appreciation I have for Mrs. Moraff, Mrs. Scholl, Mrs. Snider, Ms. Royo, and Mrs. Wolf for their help in my learning all about TRES. I still have so much to learn, and I am excited. Another big THANK YOU goes to the awesome TRES custodial team, Mr. Marchetti, Mr. Nimarko, and Ms. Eldridge for working hard all summer to ensure that our building is sparking clean!
The Retriever Report will continue to be sent via Enews every two weeks (on Fridays), and any urgent updates and news will be sent (email and text) as needed. I will be seeking feedback on home/school news communication and welcoming any ideas to make our communication easier and more convenient for parents. The next Retriever Report will be emailed on Sept. 8th.
Please contact me should you have any questions or feedback.
Dr. TRESler, Principal
How to Find Out the Name of Your Child’s Teacher on Aug. 30th
Follow the directions to update your Family File to access your child’s homeroom placement on August 30th. Thank you to those TRES families who have already completed this task.
HCPSS uses Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect and selecting the Family File tab and then clicking on Family File.
Changes of address may not be made through Family File. If you have recently moved, please call us as soon as possible at 410-313-2560.
For students who are bus riders, please note that bus numbers and routes shown in Family File may be subject to change. Please check the school and bus locator on the HCPSS website after August 16.
Resources on how to access Family File may be found online. Parents who have forgotten their login credentials may click the “Forgot Password” link on the sign in page. If you need additional assistance, please fill out this Connect Help Form.

Volunteer Training is Required of all HCPSS School Volunteers
We love parent volunteers and we appreciate all they do to help the students and staff at TRES! Please remember that all parents must complete the HCPSS training prior to volunteering. You can complete the training by visiting http://www.hcpss.org/parents/volunteer-information/. Please print your certificate and send to TRES attention to Mrs. Moraff.
HCPSS Healthy Meals Initiative at TRES!
As part of the HCPSS Healthy Meals initiative, beginning this school year TRES will have a serving line salad bar that offers fresh fruit and vegetables. Additionally, all HCPSS schools will be providing students with a wider variety of appealing and nutritious meals. The number of healthy lunch entrees will increase from 25 to 34 over a 25 day cycle.
Click here to read our Superintendent Dr. Martirano’s blog about keeping our students safe. He is asking that all parents check into schools using the Lobby Guard and driver’s licence for accurate background checks. Parents will be required to scan their driver’s licence when visiting TRES. We thank you in advance for helping to keep our school safe.
Students are expected to have their immunizations up-to-date by the first day of school, or they will be excluded from school. This year the Howard County Health Department will be holding three walk-in clinics at local schools where students can receive required vaccines. Flyers in Spanish and English are attached. If a parent indicates to Health Room staff that they will attend one of the clinics that week, the student will be allowed to remain in school. Should the student not attend the clinic and remains out of compliance, they MUST be excluded from school until the immunization is up-to-date. HCHD Clinic Schedule. Please call our health room if you have any questions.
