We hope your families have had fun dressing your students in celebration of Kindness Week at TRES! Our staff favorite is “We Can Work Out Our Problems” by wearing work-out clothes. Dressing for kindness is the easy part, but putting kindness into action is what it is all about. In our monthly school videos (our TRESmissions) and classroom community circles, we are using the word “empathy” to help students connect directly for how to perform acts of kindness and say words of kindness. We challenge you to ask your student if they can define empathy.

We are off to an excellent start in the New Year at TRES. With a clean slate and New Years Resolutions, January is the perfect time of the year to talk about goal setting. We’ve all shared the frustration when we our children (and ourselves) not trying hard to accomplish something when they are perfectly capable. What can we do? One way is to foster a growth-mindset or a “can-do” attitude to help your child learn to set goals and meet them. Parents, here are some ideas for helping your kids with goal setting:

’Tis the season for being oh so busy- at home and here at school. Our calendars are filling with many fun, yet time consuming activities. An excellent way for you and your children to savor the precious moments as well as navigate some extreme emotions during this time of the year is through mindfulness. Mindfulness is the state of being aware of the present moment. This happens when we notice and accept what is going on with our feelings, body, and surroundings without judgement. Through mindfulness practice and exercises, children and adults can learn to regulate their emotions. Mindfulness is the framework for living purposefully in your actions and feelings.

Got Empty Inkjet and Toner Cartridges?

TRES is collecting cartridges to recycle and raise funds for our school. The cartridges can come from home, work, friends or neighbors. Cartridges should be placed in a zip lock bag or wrapped in cellophane to prevent leakage. There is is box inside the front doors for drop off. Thank you for helping to protect the environment while raising funds for TRES!

Little Free Library Opens at TRES on Dec. 3rd!

TRES was gifted with a donation of a Little Free Library! You may have noticed it out front of the building beside the bench (in the white gravel). This week, Ms. Royo has been teaching students all about how a community uses and takes care of its Little Free Library.

With almost two months of school under our belt, the reality of life commitments (school, friends, family, extra curricular activities, etc) are in full swing. These commitments can be fun, rewarding, and make us well rounded, yet they can also trigger anxiety. Is anxiety a bad thing? Anxiety is a normal response to a new and/or unexpected situations.
