COVID-19 Coronavirus Updates (3/6/2020)

Please note that HCPSS updated the website to reflect important information about COVID-19.  It will be updated regularly.  https://www.hcpss.org/health/coronavirus/
Additionally, we strongly encourage parents/guardians to continue to encourage preventative measures including regular hand washing and keeping students home when ill for any reason. Students MUST be fever free without the use of fever reducing medicines for 24 full hours.

What are we doing specifically at TRES to prevent the spread of germs?

All teachers will be teaching students about how to prevent the spread of germs during community circle time. Topics will include:

  • how to properly wash hands (wash for 20 seconds, don’t forget the thumbs, use soap)
  • how to “elbow cough” properly
  • washing hands after using a tissue and coughing
  • not touching our faces
  • minding personal space
  • Greeting others with “elbow taps” rather than high-fives, fist-bumps, or hugs

We are scheduling hand washing during the day and ensuring that students are washing and/or using hand sanitizer before lunch. We are monitoring levels of soap, paper-towels, and hand sanitizer to ensure that we are well stocked. While we have what we need for now, donations of hand sanitizer, tissues, and hand soap are always welcome. We are working to sanitize surfaces and touch points as often as possible. Please email Dr. Tresler (tiffany_tresler@hcpss.org) and the Health room (susan_mchale@hcpss.org) if you have any questions.

Community Message from 3/3/2020

Parents and Community Members,
There has been a lot of attention in the news and on social media related to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, a new respiratory virus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. This is an evolving situation, and HCPSS will follow the guidance of the Howard County Health Department who will continue to provide updated information and guidance to HCPSS leadership as it becomes available.
The school system has posted information on the website related to the Coronavirus.
Mostly, it is important that we are all doing everything that we can to keep our children and classrooms healthy. The Howard County Health Department officials have shared several recommendations to ensure that we are taking appropriate and effective actions to stay healthy and prevent the spread of all person-to-person viruses. These precautions also have been shared by the CDC, and include:

1.    Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
2.    Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
3.    Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
4.    Staying home when you are sick
5.    Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
6.    Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched objects and surfaces
If you have concerns regarding your child’s health, please contact the school nurse. Thank you for all of your efforts to help us maintain a safe and healthy school.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tresler, Principal
