Retriever Report November 18, 2022

Fri, 11/18/2022 - 9:27am

Message from Dr. TRESler and Mrs. Moraff:

Dear Retriever Families,

Inclusive Schools Week is December 5-9, and a Blizzard of Belonging (B.O.B) is coming to TRES during the month of December. This school wide incentive to promote classroom engagement begins Monday, November 28th, and ends Friday, December 23rd.

During the Blizzard of Belonging, any student demonstrating empathy and inclusion will receive a paper snowflake. Each week our school will set a goal of how many snowflakes we’d like to earn. At the end of each week, all snowflakes will be counted, and the number will be shared through a school wide B.O.B. commercial.

Along with this announcement will be the opportunity for a mini-school wide celebration of inclusion, belonging, and positivity (dance party, craft, or brain break). When our school reaches the final goal, we will have a Blizzard of Belonging school-wide Celebration! Friday December 23rd is Comfy Cozy Day.

When students demonstrate empathy and inclusion, it reflects our four TRES traits (Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, and Care). Each class will have a kick-off community circle for our Blizzard of Belonging discussing what it means to belong and how to show empathy toward others. Teachers will continue to use community circle time to allow students to recognize each other for showing empathy and inclusion.

Cozy up and watch the SNOWFLAKES fall at TRES!

Warmly,
Dr. Tiffany TRESler, Principal TRES
Mrs. Heather Moraff, Assistant Principal TRES

Hour of Code Celebration December 5-11

What is Hour of Code? The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. It started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. TRES students will be engaging in activities that week in their homerooms as well as in Technology class.

Back By Popular Demand…The Maryland Young Authors Contest!

The Maryland Young Authors Contest is a great way for students in grades 1-5 to showcase their writing talents. Students may submit a creative, original piece of writing in the poetry category, the short story category, or both. School winners from each category move on to the county competition. Please contact our TRES YAC coordinator, Lauren Rifkin, at lauren_rifkin@hcpss.org with questions. We look forward to having many students participate this year!

Students should submit an electronic or paper copy entry that meets contest guidelines with a cover sheet to Mrs. Rifkin by December 10, 2022.

TRES PTA

Season of Giving

Please consider donating to the TRES PTA this year on Giving Tuesday so we can continue to provide funds that support programs, academic enrichment, social events, and the teachers at our school! Visit HERE for more information and hear from staff how all the funds are used.  PTA funding currently comes from membership dues, restaurant nights, Amazon Smile and some smaller events, but it is not enough to cover the cost of an average of $68 per student.  We appreciate any amount you may be able to give!

Amazon Smile

When shopping this holiday season don’t forget to shop on Amazon Smile using our direct link. The Amazon Smile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price on eligible items to TRES.
