Retriever Report March 3, 2023

Fri, 03/03/2023 - 10:26am

Message from Dr. TRESler and Mrs. Moraff:

Dear Retriever Families,

During its February 23rd meeting, the Howard County Board of Education adjusted the start times of schools for the 2023-2024 school year. There is no impact to the current school year. All changes will take effect in August.

The exact start time for each school will be determined this spring and shared with the community as transportation routes are finalized. However, TRES is part of Tier Two, which means our school start time will be approximately 8:40 a.m. next school year. If your child will attend a different school next year, the start times for all schools can be found on the HCPSS website.

I want to reiterate the words that HCPSS Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano shared: “Finalizing and fully implementing this plan will be a months-long process.” Much more information will be provided to students, staff and families from HCPSS and our school throughout that process.

I encourage you to read more about the process to evaluate school start times on the HCPSS website. I know you may have questions; however, please note that there are many impacted pieces as a result of this decision and all details will not be available right away. We are working with HCPSS central office staff on the logistics related to the implementation, and additional information will be provided to you as it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued care and support of our students.

Warmly,
Dr. Tiffany TRESler, Principal TRES
Mrs. Heather  Moraff, Assistant Principal TRES

Volunteers Needed for TRES Virtual Career Day - Please Respond by 3/24

Our school counselors’ work includes providing opportunities for students that will help them make future career choices and become career ready by the time they graduate. At this developmental stage, it’s all about career exploration.

During the week of April 17th - April 20th we will be having Career Week at TRES, which will include our Virtual Career Day. Volunteers are needed to discuss different careers in a recorded 2-5 minute video answering questions about your education/training, working conditions, and job description. It is helpful to integrate movement or hands-on engagement activity during your pre-recorded presentation as our students learn in many different ways.

If you would like to volunteer your time and create a video for our TRES Virtual Career Day, please email Mrs. Berdeguez at lauren_berdeguez@hcpss.org by Friday March 24th. Please use the subject line Virtual Career Day Volunteer: JOB TITLE. For example, Virtual Career Day Volunteer: FIREFIGHTER. Thank you in advance for your support.

Field Day 2023 - Volunteer Sign Up Requested by 3/15

Currently Need Volunteers for the Morning

We are excited to share that planning is underway for Field Day on May 18th, with a rain date of May 26th.  This is an all-day event for students. We are currently still in need of volunteers for the morning or all day. The morning shift is 8:45 - 11:45 a.m.   We are asking volunteers to please register by March 15th to allow our PE staff adequate planning time.  If we do not have enough volunteers, we will make alternate plans, which would most likely reduce the event to a half day. Within a week after you complete the sign-up form, you will receive a confirmation note with your time slot.  It will come home in your child’s folder.

Please sign up HERE. Thank you for your support!

Support will be provided on Thursday, March 9 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the following elementary schools: Bollman Bridge ES, Swansfield ES, Talbott Springs ES, Waterloo ES, and Waverly ES.
