Dear Retriever Families,
We are excited to share that we will continue to grow our TRES community for the 23-24 school year as we open a pre-kindergarten program for children turning four by September 1, 2023! We can’t wait to welcome our new young Retrievers! You can read more about registering for both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten below in this newsletter. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors, as early registration helps us greatly when planning for the upcoming school year.
Speaking of next year, soon we are going to begin planning for our 25th Anniversary celebration! TRES greeted our first students in the fall of 1998, and we will be looking forward to welcoming our 25th group of incoming kindergarten students this August! If you have celebration ideas please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and share! While we may not be able to use everyone’s ideas, we are hoping that members of our community have some creative recommendations for consideration.
Warmly,
Dr. Tiffany TRESler, Principal TRES
Mrs. Heather Moraff, Assistant Principal TRES

Students Fasting for Ramadan
We wish a Happy Ramadan, which begins March 22nd, to those families who observe. If your child is fasting and would like an alternate space so they do not have to be in the cafeteria during their scheduled lunch time, please email Dr. Tresler (tiffany_tresler@hcpss.org). Dr. Tresler and/or another member of our student support team will work with your child to find a suitable alternative activity.

HCPSS Hosting Student Drug Use: A Crisis We Can’t Ignore
HCPSS is hosting a community event called Student Drug Use: A Crisis We Can’t Ignore to engage students, parents/guardians, staff and community members regarding the substance abuse crisis that is directly impacting our schools and community. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 28, from 7-9 p.m., at Howard High School (8700 Old Annapolis Road, Ellicott City).
Superintendent Dr. Michael J. Martirano will keynote the event, sharing local and national data about student substance use and behavioral health needs that illustrates the frightening realities our youth are facing, and how HCPSS is responding to those needs. Following Dr. Martirano’s remarks, attendees will have the opportunity to choose one of several breakout sessions led by HCPSS staff and community health partners.
Visit the HCPSS website for more information about the event. Please note: If you require any language supports, please contact the Office of Multilingual Family Services.

The Retriever Run is a 5K RUN/WALK. This will be a fun school-wide event meant to bring the community together, show school spirit, and promote fitness. Participants may run or walk the course! Registration is $30 for adults and $20 for ages 18 and under. New registrations are not guaranteed a t-shirt. T-shirt and race bib pickup will be April 14th from 5:30-8:30pm at TRES. Register HERE.
Retriever Run Volunteer Sign Up
In order to make the Retriever Run a success on April 15th, we need the help of volunteers! Course direction volunteers are needed along the path to direct participants and possibly direct traffic, if necessary, for the safety of our participants. These locations will be assigned race morning and volunteers will be given a yellow vest and flag. If you are not planning to run or walk the 5k, come cheer on your friends and be a course volunteer! We also need help with set up, clean up and running a backup timer. Please sign up HERE.
