Message from Dr. TRESler and Mr. Hiel:
Dear Retriever Families,
We are hoping that the winter weather cooperates for us to have outdoor recess again soon. Once the ice melts on the blacktop and playground, and the temperature is above 21 degrees, we will be able to permit the students to play outside. As a reminder, please ensure that your student is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. We recommend layers that can be added and removed to accommodate for the various weather conditions. Due to supervision requirements and staffing, we are not able to accommodate individual student/parent requests for recess preferences. We follow the HCPSS temperature and weather condition guidelines to make decisions about recess. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
Warmly,
Dr. Tiffany TRESler, Principal
Kory Hiel, Assistant Principal

Shoes that are not appropriate for class include boots of any kind, dress shoes, flip-flops, or crocs; students who are unable to participate in class due to unacceptable footwear are given written work to complete that relates to the current unit. Counselors' Corner - A Message from Mrs. Wolf and Ms. Diaz
Things can feel a bit wacky with sudden changes in schedules, resulting in kids (AND adults) feeling a tad cranky, unsettled, and out-of-sorts. The recent snow days and delays haven't helped! Perhaps it's the last-minute changes, a shift in sleep/eating schedules, or the fact that lounging at home is a preferred status over going to school. Whereas we can't control the weather, it's important to take charge of the aspects we CAN control since routines and rituals help children with feeling safe, managing expectations, and with general growth/development. Instead of staying up extra late, sleeping in extra long, spending the day on screens, or eating whenever the urge hits, try to stick to schedules and rituals as much as possible. Your child may not be thrilled and thanking you for it, but routines will help with their overall well-being, focus, and temperament. (Okay - maybe a day in PJs here and there can be the added bonus!?!)
