Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Triadelphia Ridge is a PBIS school.  PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports.  The focus of PBIS is on positive behaviors and supporting students in their behavior for a safe and successful classroom experience.

The mission of PBIS at Triadelphia Ridge is to provide a safe and nurturing school environment by implementing PBIS and all of its components with fidelity.

Much like academic skills, social skills must be defined, modeled, practiced, acknowledged and monitored. Social and behavioral expectations need to be taught in ALL settings. That is why teachers, administrators, and support staff will take responsibility to teach and re-teach positive behavioral expectations to students throughout the year, starting the first week of school.

As part of PBIS, students are frequently and consistently recognized for behaving in a positive way.  The Treasure Tickets are used to recognize students’ positive behavior and can be given out by any staff member.  There are two Treasure Ticket denominations: regular Treasure Tickets are worth 1 point and Golden Treasure Tickets are worth 5 points.

To additionally reinforce positive behaviors, grade level teams have monthly Gold Coin Celebrations.  Students who have exhibited positive behavior for the month are invited to participate in celebratory activities.  Students from each class within a grade are also recognized and awarded, during this time, as representing each of the four Treasure Traits.  The students’ picture is taken and displayed in the team area and each student goes home with a certificate.

Though the focus of PBIS is on positive behaviors, we recognize that students sometimes slip and exhibit behaviors that are not appropriate.  In that case we use the Behavior Management System.

It is important to note that there are times when giving a warning and progressing through the consequences is not an appropriate response. Some behviors warrant quicker administrative involvement.

The most important thing to remember is that staff will work to get to know students.  Developing relationships with students and their families goes a long way toward building positive experiences.  PBIS at TRES is support for all students so that together we will have a great year!
