Dear Retriever Families,
It was great to see all of you at the back to school night events this week! We enjoyed getting the opportunity to connect with our parents again, and we hope that you are looking forward to the school year. As promised, here is the link to view the brief related arts and admin presentation.
As fall weather approaches, please remember to label your child’s jackets and coats with their names. Our lost and found is already growing and the name labels are a huge help in reuniting lost items with their owners. The cooler mornings and warm afternoon recesses often leave us with many discarded jackets on the playground.
We are looking forward to seeing all of you at the Retriever Rally on September 30th! It’s one of our favorite events of the year!

TRES Memory Book Cover Art Contest
Original student artwork for the front and back cover of the 2022-2023 Memory Book is being accepted through October 10, 2022. Winners will be announced around November 1st. The theme for this year’s memory book is learning and kindness. In order to be considered, artwork must meet the following criteria:
All entries should be turned in to the front office. Questions should be directed to Dr. Tresler at email@example.com.
Students in grades 1-5 will take the Measured Academic Progress (MAP) assessment during the months of September and October. The data from the MAP assessment will help schools and teachers measure your student’s academic progress. The MAP test does not affect grades and the difficulty adjusts depending on how your child responds. It is normal for students to only answer about half the questions correctly. Learn more about the MAP assessment HERE.
Specific testing dates can be found on the school's website calendar. There is no preparation needed for MAP testing. We ask that you encourage your child to get a good night's sleep prior to their test dates and have a hearty breakfast in the morning. If you have any questions regarding MAP testing, please reach out to Mrs. Moraff, Assistant Principal and Testing Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR STUDENT(S) FAMILY FILE ASAP
Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect and selecting the MORE OPTIONS tab on the left and then clicking on Family File.
When Your Child is Absent From School
Excuses for absences from school are required by Maryland law. Please email email@example.com if your student is absent. You must include your child’s first and last name, the date of absence, and the reason for absence. Please do not email CANVAS for absences.
If your student is dismissing early, please send a separate note to the homeroom teacher with your child in the morning.
